Abstract

This essay addresses the need for a broader view of healthcare, going beyond the traditional biomedical model. The Unified Health System (UHS) faces challenges in providing comprehensive care due to the fragmentation of practices. Thus, the proposal of the text is to incorporate philosophical and sociological perspectives into the debate on the concept of care, highlighting Integrative and Complementary Practices (ICP) that promote autonomy and value the integrality of the human being. These practices include traditional health methods that complement biomedicine and align with the vitalist paradigm, focusing on the balance between body, spirit, and environment.
