This retrospective longitudinal study investigated changes in primary care professionals’ perceptions of mental health care following the implementation of matrix support in a medium-sized municipality in São Paulo state, Brazil. The study was conducted at two time points: T0 (May-July 2019) and T1 (NovemberDecember 2021), with the participation of 158 and 80 workers, respectively. The results indicated that the implementation of matrix support and the increased articulation of the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS) played a crucial role in improving workers’ perceptions of the adequacy of primary care mental health services. The associations between matrix support, facilitated access to other professionals, and network articulation highlight the importance of an integrated and coordinated mental health system. The study also found that the technical-pedagogical support and case co-management provided by matrix support contributed to more effective handling of complex demands, reducing worker overload. Additionally, there was a decrease in the fear of physical aggression and an increase in confidence in recommending services to family and friends, suggesting a positive impact on both the work environment and perceptions of service quality.
